1958 Buick Caballero Station Wagon
The pink dinosaur. This car was soooooooooooooo cool. Written up as the most chrome laden, ostentatious, over the top wagon to come out of Detroit. Didn’t deter me one bit. I thought it was beautiful.
I bought this one from a collector in Florida. The car was in really nice condition. My mistake here was I planned to tow a trailer with it.
The old Buick dynaflow transmissions were bullet proof. They could tow a house. This I knew and didn’t have to worry about a thing.
What I didn’t know was that in 1958 General Motors experimented with a new transmission, Flight Pitch. A turbine type unit that had virtually no low gear and had trouble pulling itself out of a paper bag. So, I kept the car for a few years and enjoyed it anyway. It went to a collector in the Dakotas and has since been sold several times. Live and learn, learn and enjoy. I didn’t loose any money on it. Just maybe the opportunity to get something else that slipped through the lines as things became more expensive.
