1938 Pontiac Business Coupe
The cars from the thirties have always intrigued me. Art deco, long hoods, living room sofa seating, etc. And the feeling of being like Clark Gable or Cary Grant, cruising down the highway with one elbow sticking out of the window on the sill and one hand on the steering wheel. What a ladies man I was (NOT!) driving down the road in this one.
One of the things you don’t see in today’s cars is the factory made car lacking a back seat. The business coupe was used by traveling salesman, and their samples and sales items were stored neatly in a special area where the seat would usually be.
To buy this car, I went to a car sale in San Mateo, California about 25 years ago. This was one of the cars being sold for a great price, $2,200.00 I bought it on the spot and drove it home. It was baby blue,(blech). I guess that’s better than baby poop. So, I proceeded to paint it a two tone brown and beige BABY POOP color. It looked great. I kept this one for several years. It had a new broadcloth interior, wide whites, and a rebuilt engine.
I have to say, I miss this one more than the girls I dated before I met Jenay. And, it was a much better ride!
