1961 TrailorBoat Trailer
Here is a really neat, very small trailer. For some reason, this concept never really caught on. Trailerboats were manufactured in San Rafael California for just a few years. There really are not many of them around.
The fiberglass construction makes these impervious to the elements. The concept of a small teardrop trailer had been around for years when these went into production. What makes these so unique is the boat on the top. That’s right… the boat unclips, comes off, and the motor goes on the back of the boat. There is a fully enclosed roof on the trailer under the boat. You open the side door and there is a surprisingly roomy interior. Storage shelf up front. Fishing rod racks on both sides, and flip up Herr windows for ventilation. Open the back door and what do you get… a galley. Plenty of cooking space, storage for a cooler, dishes and the back door doubles as a table.
When I found this trailer it was a mess. Someone had thrown a bowling ball through the side. The fenders were cut out with a jigsaw so wide tires could be installed. After repairing the fiberglass back to original, we painted the trailer to match my 54 Cadillac convertible. Check it out!
